Greetings:
I've looked for this problem but have not found a solution that seems
to relate to exactly this situation.
From what I've read, I should NOT need to run X11 with the OSX 10.5.5
yet it starts automatically when I try to run the Open Office Suite.
I just downloaded this tonight for the second time and still, I get
the following error after X11 opens: "2.4 Apple event timed out".
OO.o 2.4 requires X11. The newest Mac OS X Leopard update 10.5.5 causes
problems with X11 and OO.o 2.4.
There is a work around for the X11 time out:

Also you may need to install latest X11 from
http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki/Releases
A simpler solution that I highly recommend is to install OO.o 3.0. It
does not require X11. Release candidates are available now. The final
release is out in a week or two.
I am using an iMac made in 2003 but it seems to meet all the criteria
mentioned in the article.

The US English version for PPC Macs is named
