I wonder if I could have some help with a printing problem. I have a Open office document (2.4) about 60 pages in length which I wish to print to two pdf files using adobe pdf writer. (I produce two files for each brochure so that one file prints ones side of the document and the second file the other) I have done this many times before but have hit a problem today I don't know how to tackle it, it is repeatable, it does it every time.
I select file, print, chose the Adobe pdf writer and select the options I want, namely brochure options, like Left, reversed, brochure. When I select print (I am watching the last page of the document) the spaces and paragraph marks show in the document, then as it finishes printing to the file, the existing Odt file's last pages jumps down 6 or 8 lines. That is how the pdf file also appears when I view it, but Open office does not recognise the change, it does not ask me to save the document, and next time I open it, it is as before.
Why is Pdf writer corrupting or reformatting the original document? I would
understand it reformatting itself if margins or something were a problem, but
I would expect it to prompt me first.
Any help or ideas greatly appreciated please.

=====================================
I took a look at other responses to this.
Let us take moment and sorta review some ideologies.
The Office:
The Secretary types up some correspondence. Maybe adds a chart
and/or some tabulations from other sources. Makes the whole thing look
pretty after checking the spelling and basic grammar. Sets the printer
to 2sided print (if appropriate) and prints it up and submits it to
requester for final review. When it passes review the document is
printed and posted or faxed or otherwise transmitted to the receiver.
The Print Shop:
The Printer receives things to be printed. May be text in
simple stream order and Printer is to 'beautify' or maybe it's already
mocked up. If product is a bound item then sequencing the page layouts
becomes an important operation. Whether the final production is via
desktop printer or offset (or web) press is only of concern as far as
the specific mechanical process demands. Typesetting and composition of
elements on the page is Printing. The Printer will also oversee any
binding operations.
OK:
The two above are NOT the same thing. BUT they each use the
same tools. OpenOffice is designed for regular OFFICE use. Books,
manuals newspapers, flyers/posters, tabloids and such are the products
of the print shop. Again, same tools, but the start to finish
procedures have notable differences.
SO:
Let's drop back to what others have already indicated.
1) Either export the file to PDF and use a PDF reader/printer
program to produce product, say - the free Acroreader,
OR
2) Print direct from OpenOffice, and forget the PDF.
I have a shelf full of manuals of double sided print that I have made. I
use Linux and I use #1 choice. Even number pages are printed in
counting order and reloaded, unsorted, extra blank sheet added if
necessary, and odd number pages are printed in reverse order. Stack
winds up ordered and ready for binders. I get a PDF for online use as a
byproduct. (If the 'real' page count ends in an odd number, add a blank
page to top of second pass before starting second print cycle.)
Life is tough enough without trying to make it harder.
