Hello, I may not be clearly understanding the requirement here but I often use OO Calc instead of using the OO Writer when needing to set out something like I imagine is required here. You can choose a number of columns - if I wanted two tables side by side I would make three columns to fit across the page, leave two at the size of the tables and one in the middle at a couple of cms to divide the two columns, and adjust to row height to whatever is required. For the table/s that are to go across the width of the page - select the row
height required and use the merge on the three columns to have one area across the page area. The advantage of using Calc after entering detail in the formed cell/s you are shown by the small red arrow at the right of the cell/s whether the area set is large enough for the area left with no alteration by OO to the cell size you have chosen. If using Writer, the text can easily go down to a second page. With Calc you can fit what is required to one page, or several pages easily. If you want table areas to have borders this can be done through Format > Cells > Borders around one cell for two across and select the three merged cells and put a border around them. This may seem complicated (it is to explain) but I have used it so often. I feel I have more control over what I am doing. Hope this opens up some possibilities.
