You do not give us a lot to go on. You do not tell us what operating system you are using or what version of openoffice.

Assuming you are using some form of windows. You should have downloaded an install file from www.openoffice.org. You then need to double-click on the file to run it. It will unpack onto your desktop and then install. You need to decide if you want OOo to read and write MSOffice file. If you do then choose that in the install otherwise leave it unselected. (This can be changed at a later date without an re-install). Then once the install is complete you will find in the start programs a OpenOffice folder of programs to use. If you have installed openoffice 3.0 then there will be an icon created on your desktop.
