Dear Users,

I want Open Office 3.0 to be my default programme to open Power Point
and Microsoft .doc files. In 2.4 on installation you had the choice of
making it the default programme (program!). No such option with
version 3.0 The result is when I double click on a .doc e-mail
attachment, instead of opening it with Open Office, it brings up a
message with the file path of the attachment then "invalid menu handle."

I can open Open Office Writer and then trace the file path through to
the attachment, and then open it, but is there a way of organising
Open Office 3.0 so that it is, as was version 2.4, the automatic
default program to open such files?

You can select the default application for various file types, by
following these instructions. You'll choose OpenOffice as the default app.

Changing file associations

Right click on file icon
Select Open With > Choose Program...
Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and
choose the desired application.
If that method is not available, follow the directions listed here:

Bob, does your e-mail client have its own path information for opening attachments? If so, it may be trying to get to your old OOo. What happens when you double-click on a .doc file from Windows Explorer?
