You'll have to save or send the document in a Microsoft format. For example if a text document, you want the Word format. You can select this in Save as, by choosing the appropriate file type from the drop down list. Also, ensure automatic file name extension is selected. You can also email directly from OpenOffice.org, by clicking on File > Send > E-mail as Microsoft Word. Also, if the recipient only has to read the document, you may want to send a PDF instead, which can be read on almost any computer.
