That answer totally ignores the fact that many of us ADD words to the standard dictionary for what
ever reason. (I add unusual place and person names for my genealogy research and technical terms for
my work.) Reloading any of the dictionaries wipes out all the "custom words" and I have to add them
all over again. The purpose of back-ups is to save this extra work. So the question is still, how
do I back up the standard dictionary so I can save my "custom" entries? If it is not possible, then
it really should be added as a possibility.
Well, then it is the usual case of confusing to completely unrelated
topics, which are:
- dictionaries pre-installed and/or downloadable
and
- the user-dictionaries which can be editetd by the user via the UI
The 'standard' dictionary is one of the latter and thus what I have said
does not apply to it!
User dictionaries (the writable ones!) are locate in the user-layer of
the installation in the user/wordbook sub-directory. You can make
backups of those by simply copying them.

OOo 3.o does not give me the option to add a word to anything but the standard dictionary. There is
no confusing of two unrelated topics. The question was and still is, how do you back up the standard
dictionary so you can save the added words.
