I do not think that OOo is changing your files. It is far more likely
that OOo got configured as the default office program during setup. It
is fairly easy to switch this. I have some instruction here
<http://openoffice.peschtra.com/tips/ooo_change_file_extension.html>. If
you have already uninstalled, then when you re-install, follow the setup
guide closely to avoid this same issue.
