A workaround is to use the navigator tool in the right bottom
corner. But when you do so, you will find another problem: it is
still difficult to really resize it or move it even if it looks so easy.
This is discussed at issue 89920:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=89920 .
It seems that the object is placed in the background by default, and
that is why plain click does not select it. If you require it in the
foreground, either before you lose the original selection or when you
manage to regain it, go to Format | Arrange > | To Foreground (or
right-click | Arrange > | To Foreground). Alternatively, if you
leave the object in the background, you can select it using
Ctrl+click instead of plain click.
This behaviour was apparently changed in version 3.
I trust this helps.
