So there I am religiously grading these student assignments,
incorporating edits, inserting Notes, etc. and pressing Ctrl-s. Then
OOo 3.0 crashes and offers to autorecover, which I accept gladly.
Result: goodbye, farewell, toodle-oo 2.5 hours of work.
Because the @#$%^&*+ OOo recovered from its last *autosave*, whenever
that was, not MY last manual save.
If FrameMaker crashes, it leaves behind *.lck, *.backup.fm, *.auto.fm,
*.recover.fm, and *.fm files. Opening any one of the four *.fm files
causes FM to determine which is the most recent and offers to open that
for you instead. I have used FM on Macintosh, UNIX, Linux (briefly
owing to Adobe test beta at v. 5.5.6), and Windows since v. 3.0, and
have never, ever lost one byte from a crash.
Sure wish OOo could give you a progressive file set to give yourself a
bit more of a chance of recovering. I checked and auto backup is on,
but what is the file name or extension? All I can see are some 1 KB
lock files -- what are the backup and autosave files called? Or are they
saved somewhere else? Why not put them in the same folder as the base file?
