I recieved this off the list and my reply follows it.

To create a database from your data: o Create a new empty Base database. o Click Tables in the Database panel on the left. o Open your Calc spreadsheet. o Add column headers to the data if necessary. o Select the material in the database you want to appear in the database. o Drag the selection from the spreadsheet window into the lower Tables panel in the database window. o This brings up the "Copy table" wizard. Follow it to import your data as a new database table. > I can't figure out how to replace the A,B,C,-- column designators with > label/names like Name, Address. Your column headers are data: put them in row 1 (or wherever). > I can't figure out how to mark specif files and then show only those files so > I can print only those files. This makes no sense to me: you *can* only print one file at a time! In a spreadsheet, you can control what prints using print ranges. Select the material you want to print and go to Format | Print Ranges > | Define. Alternatively, you can choose to print only selected sheets or specific pages. > How to protect the data so when I do a sort on one column all the data in a > row in the other columns stays attached to the data in the column I sorted on. Select *all* the columns or material before you go to Data | Sort... Alternatively, select just a *single cell* in a contiguous block of data; Data | Sort... will then automatically expand the selection to include all the relevant cells. ++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ My reply: I probably should have done this to start with. I would like to end up able to use OOo3 to produce a printout like this. http://www.cutrightsharpening.us/DBSAMPLE.html On the Works Database program screen to the right of the row/record numbers are small boxes I can check random rows/records and then in the view menu I can select "show marked records". So far I have not been able to select random rows/records in OOo3 CALC and then make OOo3 show only those records/rows or then be able to sort and then print a report like the one in the link. I have only been able to print either individual rows/records, or everything between the first row/record selected and the last one and the Names/Labels never appaer on the printout. Only the row numbers which is OK and the A.B,C, ---- column designators which isn't OK.
