OpenOffice.org is a free office suite, comparable to Microsoft Office
and includes a word processor called Writer. It is compatible with
Microsoft Office files, both read & write, but by default saves to ISO
standard ODF formats. You can download it, at no charge, from
www.openoffice.org and are free to install & use it on as many computers
as you wish and also to pass it on to others.
