Well, it is good to see MS "working" on a promise they made in the spring.
In New York State (USA), our lawmakers stated some time ago that they
will be required to have all electronic documents stored/published in an
"Open File Format". With the economy crash, I wonder how long it will
now take. BUT, the commitment to move away from a MS document format
to an open format is encouraging for me.
Since many of the government agencies of the state has not converted over
to the MS Office 2007 package, and cannot use the service pack to read/write
the ODF files it is proposed to be able to do, I hope that the budget
crunch will
require the move to OpenOffice.org. The databases are still the
problem, but
most of the database use I have seen has been via a web browser format to
some central location. This does not involve the MS Access formats.
So it would be nice to see the move. Of course there is the SUN addon.
I have used it in the past on XP, and I may download it again for this Vista
install, but I hardly ever use MS and it is just as easy to read the
doc file
in OOo 3.x that have MS convert/export/save it in ODT.
