OpenOffice Writer is already set up to let you type any characters that
you can enter from your keyboard, including Persian (or Farsi).
You have not told us what operating system you are using, but all
operating systems allow you to set up multiple keyboards and to switch
between them.
For example, under Windows XP, you go into the Windows Control Panel,
select “Regional and Language Options”, select the “Languages” tab, make
sure that “Install files for complex script and right-to-left languages
(including Thai)” is checked, mouse-press the “Details...” button,
mouse-press that “Add...” button, select “Farsi” for “Input language”
and “Keyboard layout/IME”. Mouse-press the “OK” buttons to exit.
You may be asked to insert your system DVD.
You will now be able to switch between the Farsi keyboard and your
regular keyboard.
You can also download a Persian keyboard from
http://www.doc.ic.ac.uk/~khanban/persian/persian.html .
Other operating systems have similar methods to install extra software
keyboards. Check your manual or help files.
