No, you don't have to remove Microsoft Office. You can have both on
your computer at the same time. The only thing to watch for, is when
you install OpenOffice.org, you'll be asked if you want to make it the
default application for Microsoft Office files. This is your choice and
it can be changed later.
I run OpenOffice.org 3.x and have MS Office 2003 (plus other stuff)
installed
on my computers. I use OOo more than 99% of the time on personal and
over 95% on business "office" needs. You will find that you can do most
everything that MS Office does, and to me it is easier with OOo.
The stuff that I cannot use OOo for, MS Office 2003 or 2007 does not
work well for either.
The saying "try it you will like it" is true with OpenOffice.org
