I took a look at drawing a line in Excel 2000, and the stairstep effect is
present in MSO at about the same level as OOo Draw. I seem to recall
Microsoft putting a lot of labor into anitaliasing lines and fonts in MSO a
few years ago. I can't see a group of open-source developers putting that
much effort in unless jaggie-free straight lines on a display made an
application unusable. Why is this such a big deal? I know when projecting an
Impress presentation, lines don't seem to show an appreciable stairstep
effect, and that's the only time it would seem to be a problem. I certainly
don't see this as a bug. Rather, the desire for reduced stairstep effect
would be an enhancement request.
