I downloaded Open Office 3.0 version. I like it. If I get rid of
Microsoft Office 2007 evaluation version, how can I replace Microsoft
Outlook 2007 for sending/receiving e-mails? Is there another download?
I'm afraid of losing important files, all addresses in Outlook and my
accounts.

Can you help me? Thank you. Best wishes of a Merry Christmas and a
Happy New Year.

OpenOffice.org does not include an email app. However, many people find
Thunderbird works well. It can import your Outlook stuff.
You can get Thunderbird from www.mozilla.org. While you're there, you
might also want to get the Firefox browser, to replace Internet Explorer.

If you are in Italy, my wife loved the few months she was in Italy/France area
of Europe. She still talks about those two countries over 30+ years later.

Now:

I am using Thunderbird now and I can attest to the use of OpenOffice.org, Thunderbird, and Firefox. Better still, add Lightning to Thunderbird as the Calendar add on or use Sunbird
as the standalone version of the calendar program.

Tell you another thing;

Going from Outlook Express under XP/pro to Outlook (2003) on Vista will not
allow you to import your emails, and can mess with your email address list(s).
Going to Thunderbird will do all but the importing of the filtering system.

Also, Thunderbird has add on safety and other very useful (and some just
plain cute) add ons and extras to choose from. A.K.A. Thunderbird, at least to me, is much more secure and functional that Outlook, except the stuff that
"big business" love so much to insist you have but you can get in other much
better package(s).

Of course I am a Microsoft Hater and use it only for my OS until I can
get away from it. I cannot wait for that day, but still need it for people
I work with. Soon, hopefully, I will have a spare laptop to install Linux
onto. Any one out there can steer me into the best one for a HP Pavilion
zv6000 (6123) laptop with an AMD 64 2-gig processor?

Well, as you can see, I am not un-bias about this subject. I just wanted you
to know where I am at when I tell you, "you will love Thunderbird, Firefox,
and the calendar software". I hated Outlook when I had to use it, even
before I ever heard of Thunderbird and Firefox.
So, use the "try it, you may like it". If you do not, then you will know.

Here is the biggest thing; ALWAYS see what is out there that MAY or
MAY NOT be a better product. If I find something better than
OpenOffice.org, I will use it. I have not, and believe that I will not, but
I look. The same goes with ALL of the software you use. MS is not
the best out there for every product, but they have some good stuff too.
Open Source is the same way. At least open source software will get modified
to suit the needs of its users, not its stockholders.

So, the long and the short, try the software. Try other software. Get the
software that suits YOUR needs. I have a list of free stuff that I will change as I find other stuff to add to it and take away from it. No one can tell you
want is the best for you, except you. All anyone of us can do is point you
in the direction.

if this email seems to be putting anyone down or seems offensive
in any way, I apologize. I was "forced" to "retire" due to debilitating
injuries. They have become much, much, worse and it will be along
time before I get use to this level of pain.

Please, try the software the people here talk about.
See what you think about it, then make an informed decision.
I was not given that decision, and the result was my former manager
chose and I lost out, big time.

Please, please, do not give up youor rights to try something different.
If you do not like the software, then try another. If you like the software, you can choose to keep on using it, or look for a better one, or both, or neither.
BUT IT WILL BE YOUR CHOICE.

I am sorry if I am a little obsessed with the freedom of "choice".
