I'm using OOo version 3.0 (OOO300m0 build 9358. It's running under
WinXP SP2 (all patches applied) on a no-name pc with an AMD Duron
950mhz processor & 1gb ram. Earlier this week I wrote a 2-page letter
(starting from an .ott template). When I tried to save it to the
default odt format, it returned an error message saying something like
"problem saving ...". In an effort to not lose my work, I then tried
saving it to MS Office 97 .doc format, and that succeeded.
I then closed OOo totally down, opened it up again, reloaded the file
I had just saved as a .doc file, and tried again to save it to the
default odt format. This time it succeeded. Over the next couple of
days I edited the letter twice and saved it to new odt filenames with
no problems.
Then today I edited the original again, tried to save it to a new odt
filename, and it failed the same way it did the first time. So I
saved it successfully as an Office97 .doc file, closed the file,
reopened it, and then successfully saved it to the odt format.
Can anyone tell me whether anyone else has reported this problem? And
(hopefully) whether there's a fix already in the works?
Thanks,

When you try to save as ODT:
- do you add the ".odt" to the name yourself? You should be saying
"no". You should not add any "extension" by hand.
- do you have the "automatic filename extension" box ticked (checked)?
You should be saying "yes".
In Tools>Options>Load/Save>General is the Default File Format for Text
Document set to "ODF Text Document? It should be.
If all the above are correct then, sorry, I'm stumped.
