[users] Sending merged email from OSX

I have just recently converted from Windows to Mac and downloaded OOo 
3 as I did not have Office for Mac. I am impressed! But I tried to 
send a personalised Christmas message to friends using mail merge and 
managed to find my way through it, but when I press send and it goes 
to the final progress status window it just sits there with no 
progress. It says it is connected to the mail server, but when I go 
to Test Settings under Tools/Options/OOowriter/mail-mergeemail it 
tells me I am not connected. I have the correct SMTP address, and 
have tried the default port 25 and the 587 option, but to no avail. 
Can someone help me? Mail merge email is very important to me as I 
use it a lot.
