It's been a while since I installed 3.0. However, it's easy to change the file associations, so that OpenOffice is the default application for Microsoft Office file types, by using the intructions below. I assume you're running Windows. Changing file associations Right click on file icon Select Open With > Choose Program... Check "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file" and choose the desired application.
