Then again, that's a bit different from simply running an open source
app on your computer. That sort of behaviour would be considered
illegal restraint of trade. Can you imagine if GM or Ford said you
couldn't use gas from an off brand gas station?

Somewhat OT: Chrysler restrained trade with their transmission fluid.
They kept the chemistry secret, requiring anyone with a vehicle that
required you to buy the stuff from their parts department. They have
since released the chemistry, at least I can buy non-Chrysler
transmission fluid that doesn't violate my warranty.
