All I can say is give OpenOffice Impress a try.  I believe it has better
MS Office backwards compatibility than MS Office does.  Also, it's a
free download from www.openoffice.org, so it won't cost you anything to
try.  You can have both OpenOffice and Microsoft Office on the same
computer, if you wish.  OpenOffice.org can open the new Office 2007
files and Microsoft has promised a service pack for Office 2007 that
will also allow you to open native OpenOffice (ODF) files in Microsoft
Office.
