Yes, you can install OpenOffice.org on a new computer with Vista on it.
I am typing from a laptop that is only a few months old that came with
Vista Home Premium installed on it.
I installed version 3.0.0 and today upgraded to version 3.0.1.
Of course I have version 3.0.0 on an XP/pro machine and a Windows 2000/pro
machine. I have OpenOffice.org installed an a machine with MS Office 2003
installed.
So go ahead and install OpenOffice 3.0.x on your desktop, laptop, or
whatever you use.
It is a good software and you will like it.

Dear Open Office,
If I buy a computer with the Windows Vista operating system already installed, will I be able to install Open Office alongside it?
Thanks,

OpenOffice.org can import JPEG files and Impress can also export them.
However, I suspect you'd want something else for editing them, such as
Gimp.
