I have Crossover on my Mac too, but only use it occasionally to test Web sites in IE or to view MS Visio files etc.. OpenOffice 3.0 runs on Intel Macs with OS 10.4+ . However, I still find NeoOffice 2.4 ( http://www.neooffice.org/ ) better integrated with overall Mac GUI and snappier than the newer OpenOffice 3.0. It uses 98% of the same code base and will work with the same document types, but includes better filters for OOXML. Older versions of OpenOffice for the Mac require X11 and look very much like the Linux equivalent, but perform more slugglishly. I uses OpenOffice 2.4 based GOo on Ubuntu and it's very snappy.

Either way at least Mac users now have plenty of choice now.
