Make sure that you don't use the Numbering button in toolbar. Only use the Tools>Outline Numbering feature with the Heading x styles.

It has been very helpful except when I am making out lines and then it starts going off and doing what ever it wants. What I mean by this is when I have my outline going smoothly with the roman numerals all in align and my numbers in align and my letters all in align it starts throwing them out of order. For example when I would go to the next line sometimes it doesn't put the correct letter or number in correctly it will start back at one.
