I want to write some invoices with OOo writer, and use a
template with a predefined table. Unfortunately, when adding
rows, OOo use some default format. Ideally, OOo would inherit
the format and formula from the row above the inserted one.
- Copy row;
- Insert new one;
- Paste copied one over new ...
Might be faster than your route?
Hmm, not bad. Nice tip, although not that easy to cumunicate
(teach) a secretary.. If only OOo would correct the references in
the Sum formula. That's unfortunately a source of errors,
especially when working under pressure (been there, done that, felt
ashamed to call the customer, that the invoice is wrong..).
The Sum formula... you're right. That works far more better in Calc
than in Writer ... So another option:
- create the table/formula etc. in Calc;
Okay, here we go. I've uploaded a similar, but a bit more advanced table
for calc here: ftp://urpla.net/taxtable.ods. It unfortunately behaves
like writer in some respects. While this is consistent at least, it's
not really satisfying at the same time :-(..
Adding rows is still best done with cut & paste, or a lot of boring
adjustments had to be done:
- the position nr. formula has to be copied
(which truly is a bit easier in calc)
- the item * item price formula has to be copied (same..)
- the Sum field still isn't adjusted accordingly
I see. The formula isn't updated since you have to be on the row with
that formula before you can isert a new row under the current last (8).
My best suggestion:
- position on row 8;
- insert new one, 8 shifts one down;
- select the old 8;
- copy and paste in the empty row above;
Now item*price is copied, sum-formula is OK.
For the pos.nr. formula:
- select 6 and 7;
- drag down in the next two rows with the little black square (right under).
Probably someone else can suggest a nice formula for this, related to
the row-nr. Wait a moment. Look in Ctrl-F2, formulas. Ahah.
'=Row()-1' (without quotes) does the work for you and is automatically
updated as well.
The only advantage is, that the number format and alignment is more
stable now.
- select and copy;
- paste it in a Writer-doc;
- now it becomes an object
(default behaviour, see Past Special for other options)
- click outside and you can type in Writer
- click on the object once and you can change size/position
- bouble-click on the object and there is Calc:
insert a row and the format stays, formula is updated ...
While this is really fascinating, the related OLE acronym itself
typically freezes the blood in my veins in seconds ;-)
Can understand your fear. I've learned 'all' about OLE in MsO'97. Disaster!
[testing now..]
And you'll find that it works like a charm!
That seems to work fine. The only disadvantage from embedding I see at
the moment, that it's hard to access some fields in the table from
inside the text document. Oh, well..
- You can also create an autotext of that particular object, so that
it can easily be used in more documents.
More fascinating stuff, if only OOo would get the (advanced) basics for
office usage right..
Aha, pls help us and explain what you mean.
Thanks again Cor, your valuable input is highly appreciated.
You're welcome.
