I've got it! The key is "I copy/pasted entire table cells, not just the contents". Way to do that is shown in Joe's video (thanks Joe :-)). To select a single cell, click in the cell you want to select and hold the mouse button down then slide into another cell (thus selecting two cells) and slide back (thus selecting only the cell you want). For multiple cells it's easier -- click and hold in the first cell of the range then slide to select the full range.
