I set the properties for a page in Writer 3.01 / Linux to two columns because I needed columns on the page. But I need a header on the page that spans across both columns. Can it be done?

One easy way to do this is to use a section, since sections can also carry the column property. Leave your page with only a single column and enter your header material. Then use Insert | Section... and set your two columns on the Columns tab there. By inserting more sections, you can easily chop and change column structure throughout your document, if this is necessary.

I trust this helps.
