I just discovered that OOo 3.01 (Intrepid) cannot print characters ESC5
through ESF1 (hex). I suspect it probably can't print the whole block,
but those are the only ones I tried. I was printing to a PostScript
level 3 printer (genuine Adobe).

Is there a limitation on which blocks and planes OOo can print?

As an alternative, I could use combining diacriticals. The above
characters include specially composed glyphs which already have the
diacritical. For example, ESC5 is a voiceless m, ESC7 is a syllabic m,
and so on. "Voiceless" means there is a little circle under the
character, and "syllabic" means there is a little upright line under
the character. The reason the specially composed characters are
desirable is because getting the diacritic centered under the character
is difficult, if even possible. (Adobe InDesign does it with a script.)

What I mean about centering the diacritical under the character is that
combining diacriticals are designed to overlay the character. That is,
the diacritical symbol is to the left of its drawing box.
Unfortunately, there is only one diacritical symbol, so the font
designer had to position the diacritical symbol arbitrarily to be
centered under the majority of letters. That means that when you put
the diacritical symbol under an m it appears almost flush with the
right edge of the letter. This is very mucho muy ugly. I could overcome
the problem if I could figure out how to kern the diacritical symbol so
that it appears centered under the letter, but everything I have tried
has not produced the desired results.

Any suggestions welcome.
