I'm not 100% sure of my ground here but I believe that OOo 3.0 does not automatically configure itself as the default program for MSO (Microsoft Office) documents. I think the simplest way to overcome this is as follows. 1. Make sure you are logged in as an administrator. The following won't work otherwise. 2. Go to Add/Remove programs in Control Panel - if you are using Vista that may be called something else. 3. Select OpenOffice 3.0 and click Change. 4. Select Modify rather than Remove or Repair. 5. Keep clicking Next until you see a panel that asks how you want OOo to behave for MSO documents - there are 3 separate options, 1 per type of document. Choose to have OOo set as the default handler for each type of document. 6. Click Apply if necessary and then back out of the menu hierarchy by clicking OK as necessary. If this doesn't help, come back here with details of what you did & what happened and we'll have another think. Also, when you use Save As to save in MSO format you must ensure that the little box labelled "automatic filename extension" is ticked (checked) and that you select the appropriate MSO format from the drop down list of formats. Just doing Save As and naming the file with a ".doc" extension is not sufficient. But I think you knew that ... -- Harold Fuchs London, England Please reply *only* to [email protected]
