First things first: unmount the drive! How did you receive the file? If it was through email, then maybe you have the original email? What filesystem do you use? You might be able to use a tool like TestDisk if the changes were written to a new file. But to tell you the truth, after three days I'd say that you are in trouble. I hope that someone else can shed some light. Lesson to be learned: backup!
