I've downloaded an Access database I'm trying to extract data from. I seem to
be able to read the .mdb file via ODBC OK, but I've run into some snags.
I have been able to copy data from Base to Calc and exported it as a .csv file,
but it's mind numbingly slow. I get similar performance trying to generate a
report for the same 15,000 row query. Is there a faster way?
FWIW this is on a 2.8 GHz Pentium w/ 1 GB of DRAM & XP Pro.
But more critical, what do you do w/ a table or query that has a million
records? Is it just *really* slow? I killed the copy from Base to Calc after
an hour or more because I thought it was hung. Can Calc handle more than 2**16
rows? My prior experience says no and a search of the archives suggests that
there's no reasonable way to export a large table, but I just updated to 3.0.1.
Trying to guess what queries would allow me to export all the data in subsets
less than 2**16 would drive me completely nuts.
The notion of a database unable to import or export more than 2**16 rows sort
of boggles my mind. For what I do a million rows is a tiny dataset. Normal
datasets are in the 100-200 million row range.
FWIW The subscribe dialog interacted badly w/ the way I do email under Solaris,
so I'm not subscribed to the mailing list. Sure would be nice if there was a
"send mail w/ the following subject..." method for subscribing that was
readable on the web page.
