OOo 3.01 PPA version on Intrepid x86_64
As has been discussed in another thread (with the help of NoOp) it has
been determined that there is a bug with 3.01 on Intrepid that causes
problems with fonts. I have reason to believe this problem will be
fixed with Jaunty, which will be out in a month or so. Meantime, I am
trying to figure out a workaround.
The problem occurs most commonly when I try to Bold text, especially in
a formula. Consider the following formula:
font Sans bold left [ font Serif nbold { alignl stack { +DORSAL #
‑high # +low # ‑voice } } right ]
The bug makes the right bracket print extra fat. The solution is just
to remove the bold and nbold from the formula. Then the brackets print
the same. However, they are too thin. I mean, really, really thin.
With the formula selected I went into Format > Fonts and changed the
Sans font to Franklin Gothic Heavy. This is a superfat font suitable
for blasting. Then I removed the bold and nbold from the formula. Yet
the brackets printed exactly the same as when I used Arial for the Sans
font. In other words, the formula is not picking up the font assignment
for Sans. Interestingly, it does pick up the font assignment for Serif
later in the formula. I tried setting the Sans font to various
different fonts, but the brackets always print exactly the same.
So then I looked at other options in Format > Font, but I can't figure
out what the options are talking about. I'm not a mathematician, so I
don't know what variables and functions are. I do know what numbers and
text are, but I still don't know what parts of a formula those settings
will apply to.
I need some education and the Help file and online PDFs don't address
these issues.
