I was in no way intending to be cross and was actually quite happy to
see that someone had taken the time to respond to my question so
quickly. I don't think I said anything that would indicate any sort of
displeasure or "crossness", but if so, I apologize. I was just trying
to clarify for you, since you weren't sure if I meant printing or saving
to a file.
I'm aware (and extremely thankful) that the OO user community, like the
communities for just about all of the software I use on a daily basis,
are volunteer-supported, and I certainly appreciate your efforts here (I
can see from my short time on the list that you are a major contributor
to it). I believe strongly in this model, and attempt to give back to
it in areas where I am more knowledgable (hence my need to save a copy
of the slides without notes, to support my class in which I teach and
evangelize about Perl and other open source software :-)
So, having hopefully cleared that up, I'm still in need of advice on my
best option. If Exporting to PDF is it, I'll go that route, but was
hoping for something in a native presentation format like SXI or PPT.
I've found in the past that the students prefer it that way (they like
to open them in PPT and follow along during class, making edits to the
slides directly, as opposed to PDF which forces them to print to paper
if they want to write their notes on the slides). But best I can tell
(including reading the docs on saving), the only way to detatch my notes
from my slides is to export them as PDF. Just thought I'd ask here if
there was some other way which I am missing.

Thanks for the response. I'm not talking about printing at all, I'm
referring to making a copy of the slides available online for download
by the students, without my speaker notes. If I have a presentation
that includes notes for the slides, there appears to be no way to make a
digital copy of those that doesn't include the notes, yet still have it
be in SXI or PPT format. I can do it if I export to PDF (because that
doesn't take the notes along with the slides), but I'd prefer to keep it
in a format native to OO and PPT.
I know I can print copies for everyone without the notes, but I'm trying
to save a few trees.
Thanks,
Fran
Well then Help > Contents > Index > Search term > saving;options is
probably what you want. If not then it is likely not a feature of
saving. Maybe export is what you want. e.g. PDF.
BTW, no need to be cross. We are a number of
people who voluntarily help out people having problems with
OpenOffice, or having trouble working out how to use it. Keep in mind
that any help you receive will come from a volunteer who's being nice,
not someone who's paid to help.

I make Impress presentations with speaker notes to use for a class that
I teach. I would like to make a copy of each lecture's slides available
online, but I don't want that copy to include the notes that I have
attached to each slide, just the slides themselves. I see that if I
export as PDF it does not export the slides so that is one option, but I
would prefer to be able to provide the slides online in OpenOffice and
PowerPoint formats. However, it seems there's no way to Export the
slides, minus the notes, to either of those formats. Is it possible?
I'm currently using OO 1.1.3 but I am open to upgrading if necessary.
I am not certain I understand your problem. Are you saying that File >
Print > Options > Contents checkboxes do not work? If yes then this
should be investigated. Here's how to enter an issue into Issue
Tracker as this is the best way to have problems such as this evaluated.
If you haven't already registered, do the following:
1. To file an issue you must register with OOo by clicking the
My Pages tab and selecting the Register link
http://www.openoffice.org/servlets/Join
2. Fill in your information
3. Reply to the confirmation email that will be sent to the address
you provided.
4. Once you have confirmed, go to www.openoffice.org again
5. And click on the "Bugs & Issues" link in the General links box.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It is important that you file
any examples with the issue to ensure your need is understood.
On the other hand, if this is something you missed, perhaps you could
benefit from the Fine Manuals that we have. See
