Hi! I'm a total newbie to OpenOffice, so please bear with my ignorance. Hitherto, I've used an older version of Microsoft Word (MS Word 2002) at work, and the current version of Microsoft Works at home. I don't believe Microsoft Works includes a spreadsheet (if it does, I've never used it), and I don't very often run into situations where I need a spreadsheet. However, there are certain little "calculator" or "generator"-type programs I've run across that I'd like to be able to use (such as a "Thanksgiving dinner calculator" which generates a grocery shopping list for Thanksgiving dinner based on the number of guests, or a character generator for my favorite pen-and-paper fantasy roleplaying game), which are set up as Excel spreadsheets. I don't normally need spreadsheets at all, but I would like to be able to run those little "applets" -- and I can't justify spending $100+ to purchase Microsoft Office just so I can run those little programs. Would those Excel-based calculators/generators run under the Calc portion of OpenOffice? Sincerely, Catherine A. McClarey
