My Linux experience is limited to various Ubuntu versions from Dapper and
forward. There I have always used SCIM in order to enter East Asian glyphs,
with relatively good success. The font I most often use for Chinese glyphs
(简体字) is 智能拼音. You state that you don't want to upgrade your version of
Fedora ; it might, however, possibly be the case that getting SCIM to work
on later versions than on earlier ones. If you don't want to download and
install a Chinese IME to your Fedora setup, there are several web-based IMEs
from which you can choose....
