In a different thread Dave Post suggested I describe the method I use in
Thunderbird to identify posts to this list from unsubscribed users. So ...
The idea is that TB will "tag" "moderated" messages (those from
unsubscribed users). The tag will be defined to highlight the message in
a colour of your choice.
In Thunderbird's main window:
a) Define a tag name and colour
1. Tools>Options>Display>Tags>Add
2. Choose a name for the new tag; I chose "Moderated"
3. Click the rectangle to the right of the tag name to bring up a
colour palette
4. Choose a colour that's not used by the other tags; I chose a sort
of wine red.
5. Click OK twice. You have now defined the name and colour of a new tag.
b) Define the filter that tags moderated messages
1. Tools>Message Filters>New ...
2. Enter a name in the "Filter name:" box. I chose "Moderated
Messages" (no quotes).
3. The top pane's left hand box has a drop-down list; expand it by
clicking its down arrow.
4. Choose Customise
5. Enter the text "Delivered-To" (without the quotes) in the "New
Message Header" box.
6. Click Add
7. Click OK.
8. Back to the top pane's left hand drop-down list; expand it again
and you'll see the newly defined header "Delivered-To". Select it.
9. Still in the top pane, ensure the middle drop down list has
"contains".
10. Enter the text "moderator for [email protected]" (without the
quotes) in the top pane's right hand box
11. In the bottom pane's left hand "Perform these actions" box select
"Tag Message".
12. In the bottom pane's right hand box select the tag you defined above
13. Click OK
Now if you want you can run the filter on your Inbox and/or any other
folder(s). The result should be that the moderated messages are
highlighted in the colour defined in (a4) above. Subsequently all
moderated messages will be highlighted as they are received.
You don't have to *tag* moderated messages. Instead you could have them
moved to a special folder. Some people seem to prefer this. I don't as
it breaks threads. If you want to do it this way, omit all of (a) above
and then in (b) modify steps 10-12 so that the filter causes the
moderated messages to be moved to the folder you want.
Note that this is only possible in the *Mail* component of Thunderbird.
The facility does not exist in the *News* component so, if you use Gmane
to read this list using Thunderbird then the above does *not* apply. The
filter mechanism within the News component doesn't let you customise the
headers as per (b 3-7) above.
Hope this proves useful.
