The official, free version obtained from www.openoffice.org does not require registration or a password to operate, so I suspect you got it somewhere else and may need to address your issue with them. But if your e-mail says OOo is required, there is probably an attachment in one of the ODF formats (like .odt) that somebody is sending you. If you can't get anywhere with whoever gave/sold you a version of OOo, I recommend that you download from the OOo site (currently version 3.0.1) and install that instead. As part of installation, it will ask you to register, and you can either do so or safely select the option at the end that says you do not want to register. If you do register, there is no password operation involved. The site does use different registration and password operations for things like submitting official bug reports, participating in forums, and so on, but this has nothing to do with normal use of the application.
