The problem is that the Fontwork object is placed in the background
by default, and that is why plain click does not select it. You can
deal with this in two ways:
o If you require the object in the foreground, either before you
lose the original selection or when you manage to regain it, go to
Format | Arrange > | To Foreground (or right-click | Arrange > | To
Foreground). You will then find it easy to select.
o Alternatively, if you leave the object in the background, you can
select it using Ctrl+click instead of plain click.
This behaviour was apparently changed in version 3.
