My scanner can do this also. >Have you tried looking in your folder for your OCR software and looking for >an .INI or .INF file? Yes. There are none. There's a "readiris.ini" file in C:\Windows. It says: === start .ini file [Readiris] menu=1 current-version-path=C:\Program Files\Readiris Pro 9 full_path9=C:\Program Files\Readiris Pro 9 version=905 scanner32=twaino38,82 === end .ini file So no help there. >Sometimes, the direction to open MS Word is located there and can be edited >to direct the opening of OpenOffice for scanned files. >There may also be some hidden places in your OCR folder that refer to MS >Word. Nope. It's all managed via a combination of in-built lists and data in the Windows Registry. >Another suggestion is for you to go to My Computer > Tools > Folder Options > > File Types and make sure that .DOC files >are to be opened (associated) with Oo Swriter. The Advanced tab will >provide you with more options. ".doc" files have been associated with swriter for years, ever since I discarded MS Office and started using OOo. I *think* that the newest version of Readiris probably supports OpenOffice 2.x, possibly 3.x. My current version supports 1.x but, of course, I don't have that installed so the OCR software utters an error message. In any case, its only support for OOo 1.x is via RTF which I can use without hassle in other ways. >HTH >Suzanne L.
