OpenOffice users,
Before I start submitting a bunch of bug reports, please tell me
whether any of you are having the same kinds of problems I'm having.
Is it something I'm doing wrong? Or something special about the
document I'm working on? Or are others having the same problems?
All of my issues are related to the way my doc looks in Word 2003
after saving from OpenOffice.org in "Microsoft Word 97/2000/XP (.doc)"
format.
Problems when using either OpenOffice.org 3.0.0 or 3.1.0:
1. Page numbers are not column-aligned in the Table of Contents
when viewed in Word 2003, though they are in OpenOffice.org.
2. After creating the TOC in OpenOffice.org, where it looks fine,
updating the TOC "field", in Word 2003, creates a TOC that shows
section numbers, but no section name or page number for each top
level section.
Problems when using OpenOffice.org 3.1.0, but work fine in 3.0.0:
3. An embedded drawing is mostly missing. In OpenOffice.org, it is
an architecture drawing with lots of labeled nodes and arcs drawn
in front of 4 large colored rectangles (the tiers of the
architecture). When viewed in Office 2003, only the colored
rectangles show. The rest is missing, or behind the rectangles,
or something.
4. A table with rows of different colors in OpenOffice.org has all
rows white when viewed in Office 2003.
So far, I have no issues with viewing/editing docs in any version
of OpenOffice.org, or saving docs in ODF or PDF format. The only
problem seems to be saving to this DOC format, where OpenOffice.org
loads such saved files correctly, but Office 2003 does not. Since
I cannot afford to have my docs look wrong when viewed in Office,
this is a critical issue for me.
I found a different table-related bug in 3.0.1, and reported it as:
http://www.openoffice.org/issues/show_bug.cgi?id=99334
complete with a small test case to demonstrate the problem, and it
was fixed in 3.1.0. However, 3.1.0 did not fix the TOC problems,
which I had hoped were related, especially since there were so many
bugs already reported about tables and indexes, and so many of them
where marked as duplicates or as scheduled to be fixed in 3.1.0.
Furthermore, as described above, 3.1.0 seems to have caused even
bigger problems for me than the one it fixed.
So now, I am very discouraged. Before I bother creating small test
cases and reporting these additional bugs, I'd like some feedback
from other users. Are you having these kinds of problems?
Any thoughts? Thanks.
