Marginally changing the topic, Winfried Rohr has pointed me at some
code he wrote - a set of Calc macros - that will set a [new] timestamp
in some cell when some other "watched" cell changes. In other words,
the timestamp stays constant while the watched cell stays constant but
changes when the watched cell changes. The timestamp thus behaves like
a "time last modified" value more usually associated with
files/documents.

To access the macro, save the Writer document at
<http://www.re-solutions.de/ooo/makros/calc_onColumnChange.odt> which
describes the required procedure (in German and English) and contains
the macros involved.
