I did some googling. Couldn't find anything relavant to dexml, but did
find xml2txt at (among other places)
http://nightskylive.net/software/
I also found and xml2txt-.5.tar.gz a few places. It's a python program.
I couldn't get it to do anything (mainly because I don't know python!).
YMMV

Just some random thoughts: Have you tried any brute force approaches?
I have heard there exists aprogram called something like dexml that
strips xml markup from a file (can't get online at this moment to
search for it.)
That failing, there is always the LInux strings command (versions
should also be available for windows and probably for Mac - I even
wrote a simple one many years ago that ran on CP/M). It can extract
all character strings of a specified minimum length from any file. It
can stream them all together (good for a quick look at a binary file
to see text strings that give you clues about what it does or where it
came from) or it can put out one string per line. If that gets you
remotely usable output, you can then run it through your favorite
programming language to further clean it up. Awk (available for for
several platforms - probably Mac) is particularly well suited to such
tasks and pretty easy to use once you grasp it initially. I'm sure
perl ... would work as well, but might involve a steeper learning curve.

That helps. I cannot speak on any of the mac ports. As I understand
these may or may not be completely compatible with the official
releases.
Nonetheless, CPH is right. In either release, bringing up the outline
view will permit you to do what you want. If neither of the Mac ports
give you this option then please submit issues. For OpenOffice Issue
Tracker, the steps are as follows:
1. To file an issue you must register with OOo by clicking the
Register link at the top right of www.openoffice.org, 2.
Fill in your information
3. Reply to the confirmation email that will be sent to the address
you provided. 4. Once you have confirmed, go to
www.openoffice.org again
5. And click on the "Bugs & Issues" link in the General links box.
Thanks for bringing this to our attention. It is important that you file
examples with the issue to ensure your need is understood.
As to Neo, I will guess you file issues via the neooffice main site.

For some reason this does not work. I have the slide icon on the
left a
small preview in a separate window on the right but no text to select
anywhere in sight.
I used NO/J (RC with patch3) and OOo 1.93 with exactly the same
results.
The original file is a .ppt file that I converted to .swi.
Doesn't surprize me. I am guessing that you are using one of the beta
candidates. Please let us know what release of OOo you are actually
using and what OS is on your machine. THis will help.
