Hallo,

I sent this message earlier today, but as my system decided to
lose several mailing list messages. I don't know if it ever
arrived at the list, or if I got any replies yet. So please
forgive me for trying again.

Yesterday I learned how to use VLOOKUP so that I can use the
CALC file as a database.
Now the next step: how, if possible, do I specify a file name
in the search range? So, I want to make one (or more) spread-
sheets from the same data, without having to copy the data
and possibly loose them.

Groeten,

           Hans.

The easiest way to select the data array in a separate spreadsheet is to open that spreadsheet, too. Then in the spreadsheet where you want to analyze that data, type "=vlookup(" followed by the value that you are searching. Type ";" and then move your mouse to the database spreadsheet and select the data range that you want the vlookup funtion to access. Next type ";" and enter the index of the column you want followed by "). The address of the database spreadsheet will be saved in your lookup function.
