Firstly, thank you for providing such a wonderful service.
I need to download files which will give me the use of software equivalent to
Microsoft's Office Word only. I don't need other components. I understand that
I can get this by downloading Open Office, but as its such a large file, is
there any way I can customise and only download what I need?

No you cannot just download part of it. If you cannot download the
large file, even using a download manager, then there are places that
you can purchase a CD with the files. OpenOffice.org does not recommend
any of them, but does provide a link to some of the vendors. Typical
costs are $10 (US dollars). Also, sometimes monthly computer magazines
include a CD which often has OpenOffice.org included in it.
