That's exactly my problem. I use PDF when I work alone, but I also work
with a company in which several people have to work on the same
document. My own role in this case ranges from editing an existing
document (eg. a sales proposal) to writing an original (eg. research
report). In both these cases - me editing MS Word docs in OOo, or them
editing my documents - the format conversions break things.

For the record, opening as a .doc and saving it as a .doc, without
explicit conversion to OOo's format, helps a bit, but not completely.
