I've been working a lot on getting templates to work for me. Here's
what I've learned so far. *Howver*, all of this was done in 1.1.4 - the
latest stable release, so it may not be exactly the same in 1.1.3.
The first thing I'd check is Tools->Options->OpenOffice.org - double
Click on Templates and make sure the paths listed are where you want
your templates to be and that you have read/write permissions for them.
You don't have to be able to write to the system wide one's, but at
least one of the directories has to be writable or you've got no place
to add anything.
(Personally, I don't like those fancy paths that are there by default,
so I create a new directory for templates somewhere easy to get to - in
my case - /home/bigbird/Ooo-Templates. Then I add it to the list (you
can only add it at the bottom of the list). Then, I delete and re-add
the other two paths so they're still there if I ever need them, but it
will look in my directory first.)
Notice, I am not using the template organizer to do this. I'm sure it's
good for something, and I have gotten it to help me on occasion, but
usually, it just confuses me.
Next, I go to the window that contains the new file I want to use as a
template (or open it in one). It would be good - but not necessary to
save it first as a regular file. That way you wouldn't be getting
messages about "untitled2".
Then, I select File->Template->Save. The cursor is then sitting waiting
for me to type the name of the new template. Once I do that, the OK
button ungrays and I click on that and I'm done (at least until I have
to edit the template five times to get it right ;) ).
