I'm using 64-bit Mandriva 2008.0/KDE3.5.9 on a laptop (1GB RAM)
Using the Mandriva-supplied 64-bit OpenOffice Writer V 2.2.4, I was
finding that the first document took around 3 minutes to load (and if
I opened anything else during this period the whole desktop locked
up).
However, if I waited for the loading to complete, all was well, and
all subsquent documents loaded immediately (including the first one).
So I removed 2.2.4 and installed 64-bit 3.1 from the openoffice site,
but the problem persists. (Writer itself loads in 20-30 seconds.)
Can anyone suggest what might be going on in those 3 minutes, please
(and how to avoid it...)?
