Nearly there. Anchor, To character allows me to move the image anywhere on
the page except on the line of text.
Anchor, As character throws the image to the page margin on the line of
text, from which I can move it up and down but not horizontally.
Where now?
With the anchor "As character", the image itself behaves like a
character in the paragraph, meaning you can type/insert text before it
and it will move horizontally then to accomodate the text. So if you
paste the part of the line you want to be to the left of the image
before it, you should end up with what you want to achieve.
