I was "testing" OpenOffice for using it at our local Red Cross office. MS
Office is just too pricy for a small chapter.

I could only find the ability to open an Access 2007 database. Ours is in
Access 2000, but could become 2003 for conversion to Base.

Any Suggestions? Methods?

Hello Kirk,

In the Base 'New database' dialog select 'Connect to existing database'. In the drop down list for the database type there are actually two entries to select from.
MS Access (the very top entry in the list)
MS Access 2007 (the very last entry...go figure)

You want to select MS Access.

This will allow you to get at the data in the tables. It also is a connection, not a conversion.
MS Access forms and reports are not available from within Base.

Doing a full conversion from MSAccess to OOoBase will take a wee bit more effort, how much really depends on the actual database.

Given that this is for a local Red Cross chapter please feel free to contact me directly and I would be happy to look at this db specifically, to establish the effort level needed and see about finding some volunteer resources to help get it done.

Sincerely,

Drew
